Walking is the new Cadillac

Walking is the new Cadillac. Remembering an episode of Mad Men, set in the early 1960's, Don Draper mentions a meeting happening just a few blocks over to a collegue that they should walk to. Both become hysterical with laughter, as if they might actually walk as opposed to drive. Times were different back then. The suburban neighborhoods were booming and buyers actually paid more for a home removed from the hustle of urban life, homes they had to drive to. Everyone saw what kind of car you rolled up in. Now, 50+ years later, things have flipped dramatically.
"This trend is about both the revitalization of center cities and the urbanization of the suburbs." The amount of walking or biking you do, ranks high in social circles. Your environmental footprint is a topic of regular conversation and deservingly, gives bragging rights. Home prices increase exponentially the more walkable your location. In some cases, scooters replace the Mercedes you may have otherwise bought to impress your friends.
